Breakfast in Bed

I picked this up at Target the other day....it was so cute - and it was 50% off!

I also got a small jug to fit on the bottom shelf of the fridge and filled it with milk. So, now Chloe can make her own breakfast, while I'm still in bed! (hence the title) We also got the popcorn maker, which was also 50% off, for movie nights with the girls. Fun times!

Captain Chloe, Argh!

Okay, so the title isn't the best, but I couldn't come up with anything else! It's supposed to be a pirate reference....you'll see. Yesterday Chloe and I were talking about her Uncle Brian and Aunt Kristina, they are going to be here in 2 days! They have been living in China since July (my SIL is teaching at an American school there, and my brother is an assistant) and they are coming home for Christmas. We are very excited, and Chloe has been counting down the days. So, anyway, back to my story. We were talking about when they would be here, and she said "Yeah, they are probably in the car right now driving to get here!" My parents drive up from Georgia all the time so that's why she said this. I explained to her that China is very far away, it's across the ocean so they have to fly here. They can't drive. When she heard me say the ocean she got very excited and said "I love the ocean! I wish I were a pirate so I could sail the seas and be near the ocean all the time!" And just to clarify, she meant the feather-in-your-hat, parrot-on-your-shoulder, "argh!"-saying pirate. Not the pirates that are wreaking havoc in the waters off the coast of Africa. But, I'm sure you knew that.

Time To Clean?

As I was walking Chloe home from the bus stop today, she was going out of her way to step in all the snow. Which was mixed with mud and leaves. So I asked her to please not step in all the mud because she'll track it in all over my clean floors. She stopped, with a quizzical look on her face and said: "What? We have clean floors??!!" I guess not.

This year for Thanksgiving we went to the Outer Banks with Mike's family. Each of us had a dish we were in charge of, so everyone contributed. We had such a fun weekend, especially the kids! During our time there, Mike and Will (with some help from others) built a kite out of drinking straws and mylar. It took them a long time to do it, but it was fun watching it fly! The weekend didn't start out that smoothly and we had some "bumps" while we were there, but we still had a lot of fun. The day we left, I found out Emily had pink eye. Then the day after we were there, Chloe had croupe. Then Zachary got a small fever and a cough. The day before we left, Mike pulled something in his foot and could barely walk. The day we left, I started to get a cold (which is now at its worst). Even though there was a lot going on, there was still some quiet time to relax and read. I'll leave you with some photos....

This is the kite that they made, doesn't it look festive?

Baby Stuff

***Update*** - Everything has already been claimed

I have some baby things that Zachary has already out-grown (or doesn't really like) that I'd like to get rid of. If you're interested, please let me know as soon as possible. (email, call or comment) I'd like to get them out of the house by next weekend, whatever isn't claimed goes to the mission store.

I'm speechless...I have no title!

Let me start by saying that this week I've had a horrible cold, which I then passed on to Zachary. I feel much better today, and Zachary is sounding less congested, so I hope he's feeling better too. I've been moving in slow motion this week, while also having to attend to Zachary a little more than usual. He just wants to cuddle and sleep, and honestly it doesn't bother me that much. Who cares if the laundry doesn't get done and I have to send Chloe to school with dirty pants on? Emily seems to know that I have not been up to my energetic self...she has been keeping me on my toes all week!

Here are some highlights:

  • Every time I look at her she has her pants off, diaper off, and working on getting her shirt off.
  • She got into the pantry, took out all of the cereal boxes, spread them on the kitchen floor and then proceeded to jump from box to box.
  • I guess this can go with the first one, but I went upstairs to get her from her nap only to see her naked from the waist down, with her diaper on the outside of the gate, with a big mess on the floor. (You know what I'm talking about, right Amanda?)
And today, which is actually funny now and I can't stop laughing as I type. But, believe me, it wasn't funny at the time. We went to Target today to pick up some things and I had my hands full when we got home. I let us into the house, put Zachary down who was happy and awake, opened the ottoman with the toys so Emily would be occupied, and then went back outside to get the rest of the bags which were in the back of the van. I left my keys on the table because, why would I need them when the van is already open? It's just one more thing to carry in my hands. Whenever I go outside, Emily always likes to close the front door behind me and look at me through the glass and giggle. So when I was coming back to the house from the van (again with my hands full) and I saw the door closed, I thought nothing of it. I put down some of my bags and went to open the door, only it wouldn't budge! I tried a couple more times because I thought, there is no way Emily could lock the door, the dead bolt is way too hard to turn. Well, our little girl has gotten stronger when I wasn't looking. She locked me out! With Zachary still in his car seat. Luckily, we have a spare key somewhere (not telling you where) inside a box that you need a combination for. As I sit there, trying to remember the combination, then trying to figure out how to open the box, I panic. What's going on inside? Is Zachary crying? Is Emily doing something from the list I typed above? It was only less than 5 minutes until I got back into the house, but it seemed much more like 10. I finally got inside and it was quiet. Zachary wasn't crying, he was just hanging out looking around. I know what you're thinking, Emily was frantic looking for me, scared and worried (just like her mama). Nope. There she was with her toys, calmly reading a book. Guess who's going to be carrying her keys now just to get the mail?!

Time to go....Emily's naked and diaper-less again!

Happy Halloween!

Here's Little Man before his costume:

In case you can't read what his shirt says:

Andi (my awesome sil) made Chloe's costume this year...isn't it beautiful?

Here's my little goldfish:

And my tinkerbell:

The Star Wars group: Hannah, Danielle, and Ben

Alice with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum...(aka Mike, Andi and Will)

We had a lot of fun this year....oh yeah, and so did the kids! :-)

Carving the Pumpkin

So, I know this is a little late, but we've had a busy weekend! Here is Mike carving out the pumpkin with Chloe the day before Halloween. She didn't really help, she refused to get her hands icky. So her job was to look cute for the pictures, and to tell Mike what to do. :-)

I'm not sure why, but Emily wanted to lick the pumpkin the whole time!

Here is the finished pumpkin:

Ohhhh, scaaarrry!

I can't believe...

That I filled up my gas tank today and it was only $39! Woo hoo!

And two posts in one day?!

Emily's Shopping Spree

Today was my day to do a little grocery shopping at Martins, and I had both Emily and Zachary with me. Now that I have two little ones, I have to use that obnoxious cart with the car attached to it. Yes, she loves to ride in it, but I have come to realize that you need to be over 5' 2" to see where you are going! (With the baby carrier on top) If I want to get my shopping done, this is the cart I need to use. Which brings me to the reason for this entry. I use the little scanner thing so I can scan as I shop, and then pay at the end at the express check out. As I go through the store, I usually see people smile and wave to Emily (mostly because she is doing her little princess wave first) but as I was paying and leaving, I noticed the girl manning the checkout station was looking at her a little more closely. Hmmm, didn't think much of it, maybe she likes kids. Now, I can't really see Emily, unless I bend down and peek through the back. I make it to the outside of the store, about to cross the street when I decided to peek in on her to make sure she was okay. Like, if she still had her coat on, still had her juice cup, that sort of thing. So you can imagine my surprise when I see her waving something around.... 2 $25 Outback gift cards! I don't know where or when she picked them up. In my mind I started to see sirens and hear all sorts of alarms going off with big yellow arrows pointing to me. I high-tailed it back into the store, where I approached the same girl that was looking at Emily funny, and handed them to her apologizing for what Emily did. She smiled and thanked me, and I left....a little red faced!

To top it all off, as we ride through the parking lot to our car, she is waving shouting to everyone and anyone who will listen: "Bye, I love you!"For those of you who know me, I am a little shy. So this was an embarrassing situation for me, even so, I was laughing hysterically as I drove away!

For My Mommy Peeps

I was reading my Parenting Magazine today (which I finally finished after 3 days!) and came across this poem which had me and Mike laughing!

Goodnight Mom
By: Sarah Jio

In the messy green family room
There was a telemarketer ringing the telephone
And a crying toddler because his brother just popped his red balloon
And a picture of-

The cow jumping over the moon (which someone colored on with permanent marker)
And there was  a missing teddy bear, and a girl with gum in her hair

And one to be scolded
And laundry to be folded
And a very hungry spouse
And something stinky in the house
(that no one else seemed to smell)

And a comb and a brush and a colicky baby who just won't shush
And a frazzled mommy screaming #*%#@

Goodnight messy room
Goodnight scribbled-on moon
Goodnight cow getting out while she can
Goodnight telemarketers and the popped ballooon

Goodnight long-gone teddy bear
Goodnight cereal bar smeared all over the dining room chair

Goodnight spitup
And goodnight leaky sippy cup
Goodnight much-too-little house and goodnight grumpy spouse
Goodnight comb and goodnight brush
And goodnight to a certain 4-year-old who just needs to hush right now I mean it

Goodnight Elmo
Goodnight toys we'll pick up tomorrow, or the next day
Hello chardonnay and TiVo-
"me" time finally.

Mommy Knows All

Last week, Chloe was playing in our living room which is gated off right now because it has her desk in there with all her craft supplies. So of course it is off limits to Emily. Chloe was in there playing under her art easel, teasing Emily who was on the other side of the gate. I was in the kitchen, and was able to look into the living room and see Chloe in the reflection of the fireplace glass without her knowing that I could see her. I asked her to stop playing under the easel because I didn't want it to fall on her. Well, she didn't listen to me the first time, so I used my "serious" voice and told her that she needs to listen and obey and stop playing under the easel. I saw her quickly look up, like I startled her. She said "How did you know I was still under the easel?" I said "Because mommy knows everything." Well, today on the way home from church, I heard a sweet little voice come from the back seat saying: "Mommy, how do mommies know everything?" Hee hee!

Happy Birthday Emily!

I would've posted this blog sooner but I've had a migraine all day long (it actually continued from last night)...I'm so glad that Mike had off work today!

2 years ago today I was in the hospital ogling our new baby girl. She was (as I like to call her) my high maintenance baby. She was not a happy baby until she could crawl, and then she was even happier when she could walk, and she was ecstatic when she could run! She is always on the move, always busy with something. She is an affectionate little girl, always quick to give out hugs and kisses. We celebrated her special day by having a family birthday party for her yesterday... what a fun and crazy day that was! Two of my best friends made her a Holly Hobbie (the classic Holly Hobbie, not the new version) birthday cake which was so cute. They also made a yummy chocolate one for me too! Thanks Gina and Jenn! Today my parents took her to Clark's Elioak Farm in Clarksville to pick out a pumpkin. They said that she was so good (what terrible two's?) and she really enjoyed the petting zoo. She had a nice long nap when she got home! I don't have any pictures yet, my dad is having trouble getting them onto the computer. Maybe I'll save that for another post.

Here is a video that I made for her birthday, it's of short video clips of both Emily and Chloe during her first two years:

I had to post a picture of Emily's Holly Hobbie cake, and what she looked like while eating it! Love that blue icing!

Here's the beautiful cake that they made for me:

This was a tricky picture to get, it took me a while to get them all together....and Emily STILL wasn't looking! :-)

Cold Season Already?

I've been stuck at home with Emily and Little Man for the past week...they are sick with a cold. It makes me nervous when Zachary's sick, he's so little! On top of the cold, Emily is having one meltdown after another. Oh how I love the terrible twos! I wish I could've made it to MOPS today.....

Potty Time

When I am putting the girls to bed, they have a routine in the bathroom that they follow. They both brush their teeth, I help Emily of course, and then they use the bathroom. Chloe uses the big potty, and Emily would pretend to use the little potty that I put in there (She would sit on it for a few seconds with her pj's still on, then get up and say "okay"). It's been up there for a while just so she can see it and become familiar with it, but I never intended to do the whole potty training thing until a lot later since I have my hands full with Little Man. But tonight, everyone was in the bathroom (Zachary was getting a bath, and Mike was helping the girls with their routine) and Mike decided to let Emily sit on the potty without her diaper or pj's on. Well, she did it! She peed on the potty! We clapped, sang, and even did a little dance for her. She was so excited about the whole thing, I hope she understood what it was for! I'm thinking about bringing the potty downstairs (where I am most of the time) and getting some pull ups for her so she can take her pants off by herself. Maybe she will start to potty train herself, will it really be that easy?! Ha!

By the way, I just noticed that I could change the font of my blog (I know, I know, I'm not very observant!) So I've decided to change it, I like this one much better....

One Month....Already?!

It has gone by fast, but yes, Zachary is one month old today! As I write this, he's in his bassinet cooing away. It is music to my ears, so precious. So, let me update you on how we've been getting by this past month. We have been getting decent sleep, he'll wake up every three hours to eat. So I am only getting up twice at night, which isn't so bad. I am able to take a short nap during the day if I need too. We are getting used to our daily routine, especially in the morning before school. We have to get up by 5:30 (the bus picks up Chloe at 7:10...isn't that kind of early for elementary school??!!) so I can get breakfast and lunched made. Emily wakes up at 6 when Chloe gets up, so our day starts early. Mike will take Chloe to the bus stop before he leaves for work, and I stay home to feed Little Man (that's what we've been calling Zachary) when he wakes up at 7. It's getting a lot easier for me as the days go by, I'm able to get more done during the day. Something I have to get used to, is to let it go when I can't get something done that I feel really needs to be. It will always be there tomorrow! I am enjoying each day with Zachary and Emily, because something I learned with Chloe is that time goes by way too fast!

Here are some pictures that I took of Little Man during the past few days. His cheeks have gotten chubbier!

Welcome Zachary Brooks Jones

He's here! Zachary was born on Wednesday, August 27th at 6:39pm. He weighed (if you can believe it) 10lbs 6oz, and was 21 5/8" long. What a big baby! I was in labor for about 9 hours, most of it was with an epidural, so I was able to sleep a little. I only had to push for 12 minutes, 3 contractions and he was out! Everyone was kind of stunned at how big he was, even the doctor! They took him to the other side of the room, where the scale and blankets were. They were doing the apgar test and cleaning him up when they noticed that when he wasn't crying, he was grunting a lot and his breathing was rapid. We heard bits and pieces, and then heard one of the nurses call down to the NICU. That had us worried, okay, it had us FRANTIC! They assured us that it was common, and they were only taking him as a precaution. We would get him back in 4 hours if everything went well. I had a few minutes to myself while Mike went out to the waiting room to tell our families. I cried, and then I prayed. About 20 minutes later, my nurse came in and said that everything was fine, it was just transitional, and Zachary was on his way back down to us. What a great God we have! We visited with our family for a few hours, and then we transferred to our permanent room to get some rest. I was feeling great that night, but now I figure it's because the epidural probably hadn't worn off all the way. When I woke up Thursday  morning, it felt like I had been beaten up. All of my muscles were sore! I guess that's what I get for having a 10lb baby! While we were in recovery, it kind of became the joke on our floor with the nurses. They would come in and say "So this is the 10lb baby I've been hearing about!" He doesn't fit in newborn diapers, they couldn't fasten them around his belly. They had to get him some size 1's. We came home yesterday afternoon, and since then we have been resting and trying to catch up on some sleep. Thank goodness my mom is here! She had been wonderful! Now for some pictures:

Here's the proud big sister (Emily was still a little too young to come in, when I get some pictures of her with Zachary, I'll post them):

My sister-in-law, Andi, took this picture of his feet, it is one of my favorites:

Another one of the big sister with Zachary at home:

We are so blessed with 3 beautiful children! We are excited (and a little nervous) to start the adventure of having 3!

First Day Of School

I'm finally getting a chance to sit down and write this post! Today was the first day of kindergarten for Chloe, what an exciting day! My best friend came out this morning to help us see her off on the bus, and since my mom is here visiting to help out with Zachary, she was there too. If they weren't with me, I probably would have been crying the whole time. I was up early this morning, before anyone else, so I was able to have a good cry then. Chloe couldn't wait to get out the door, or get on the bus.

She seemed so little getting on and sitting in her seat.

When I got her off the bus, she was talking non-stop about everything that she did today. I loved it!

In other news, Mike and I are leaving tomorrow morning for the hospital. It hasn't really sunk in yet that sometime tomorrow we will have a baby boy! We think we'll be home sometime on Friday, so when I get a chance (Ha!) I will post some pictures.

It's Almost Time!

I had my final appointment yesterday with my doctor. How do I know this you ask? Because I scheduled an induction for next week! As many of you know, I am so ready to have this baby. At my appointment, I found out that I am now 3cm dilated and then she asked if I had considered being induced. I think I replied a little too quickly saying "I would LOVE to be induced!" They won't take me any earlier than a week before my due date, which would be this Monday. But, Chloe starts Kindergarten on Tuesday and I would not miss that if I can help it. So, unless little Zachary decides to come into the world on his own, I will be admitted to the hospital next Wednesday morning to move things along a little bit. I've been having contractions, but not regular, so who knows, he may be here before then! I will keep you all posted!

**Update On Previous Post**

Okay, it wasn't a full nap. It was only about 30 minutes long. But that's okay, I'll take what I can get! :-)

So, some of you may remember my post last week about Emily not taking naps anymore. Well, today, I put her up in her room with the gate up like I have been doing in hopes that she will fall asleep. After about 10 minutes, I noticed that it was quiet and I thought to myself, "Could it be? After a week and a half, could she be taking a nap?" I snuck up the stairs and peeked in her doorway to find this:

She was so tired that she fell asleep next to the gate in the doorway, on the hard wood floor! Of course I had to get a picture before I moved her into her bed, which I did....and she didn't wake up! Looks like I'm going to take a nap today, woo hoo! Night night!

Chloe's New Look

Since Chloe is starting Kindergarten next week (can you believe it?!??!) we decided to get her hair cut for the big day. We were going to donate it to Locks of Love, but it wasn't long enough.

This is what she looked like before:

And this is what she looks like now:

She loves her new haircut, I think she looks so much older now. After she got it done, we had a nice lunch at Chick-Fil-A and then Chloe and Emily got to ride the Carousel.

We had such a nice day today! When we got home, I got specific instructions from Chloe to put these pictures on the computer so all of my friends can see them. She wanted to make sure I blogged about it...too funny!
